About the Event
Adding modern materials and methods to metalworking offers exciting opportunities for art. We will demonstrate how to cut acrylic with the laser, which leaves a water-smooth edge. You can also "engrave" acrylic with the laser to achieve scrimshaw effects. Beautiful hardwoods under 1/4 thick can be cut and engraved with the laser. We will also consider using leather instead of metal or chain for necklaces and bracelets. Learning to use alternative materials can lower costs and open new ways to make jewelry. It would be helpful to know how to make rivets and tabs for this class, and previous soldering experience is required. You don't have to solder to do this class; it will just limit your options. Basic materials provided. $30
